<sup>Once upon a time, Anrui was just like every other region. Things were peaceful, life was good. Children trained Pokemon when they turned ten; it was just what you did.

Then, Team Plasma rose to power. They corrupted the legal system, the police force, and everybody opposing them. Hundreds were slaughtered, and Pokemon training was outlawed for fear somebody strong could rise up and defeat them all. They own everything.

They police the area relentlessly. Trainers were forced into hiding. Professor Ava still gives out starter Pokemon to anybody who wants one - but she's under constant scrutiny by Team Plasma. Underground leagues were formed, and back-alley gym matches are still held. Anybody caught training or battling Pokemon is either killed, arrested or brainwashed into joining Team Plasma.
